After competing a unit of study on the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., the fourth grade students completed a Color, Symbol, Image activity centered around MLK. To celebrate MLK Day, the students reflected on the life of MLK and all that they had learned about him. The students then identified a color to represent the essence of MLK, a symbol to represent the work he did, and an image to represent the effects of his work.

This C.S.I provided the students with a context to demonstrate their understanding of the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr. in a creative, visual way. I have been very impressed with the quality of work submitted by students and enjoy seeing them take pride in their work, all while being engaged in the lesson. Through this activity, the students quickly and easily assume the role of researchers and take it upon themselves to discover more.
