A Day of Service

For the month of December, a few of us Residents are spending time at St. George’s School. I have enjoyed my time with the fourth graders and look forward to the remaining time I have with them. Spending time in a self-contained classroom has given me the chance to get to know the students’ personalities, strengths, and areas to grow.

This week, students in the fourth grade partnered with the second grade students for the “Day of Service” project. Students brought in fleece and together, the students made blankets. All of the blankets made during this project are donated to a local women’s shelter. Here are a few friends working on blankets!

Considering this is the season of giving, it was great to see our students so excited and willing to give of their time to help others! Watching the students collaborate with the second graders and listening to them explaining the purpose of the project was very inspiring. I was impressed with how aware the students were of the difference their time and work would make in the lives of those less fortunate. I am grateful to work with students like this and to be involved in a school that cultivates the spirit of community through helping others. Beyond a strong academic education, these students are learning a lesson of selflessness and giving. I am appreciative to have been a part of the Day of Service!
